Agrimec News

Ask Guy!

We wanted to know what owner Guy has to say about recent changes within Agrimec and Country life in general. Who better to question him than his daughter and newest recruit, Sophie.

This year the Cider industry had great successes in relation to their high apple yields. Other than the Arvipo range, are there any other Agrimec products that you would recommend to help aid another successful year?

We can help in a number of ways. We have a range of SFM apple harvesting equipment available – including shakers and blowers. In addition, the Florida and Hardi range of mist blowers will help to keep disease under control, greatly improving yields, and therefore margins, for the coming season. For pruning we stock products from Pellenc and Silky, as well as Arvipo, which are great for cutting down time and labour costs. For larger jobs I recommend the Rinieri tractor mounted pruners for shaping the trees and keeping growth under control. Finally, Perfect do a fantastic range of flails and rotary mowers, such as the very efficient DR 440, and fruit graders, for crops such as cherries. All of the above machinery and equipment can be bought from us.

Can you explain how my choice of products stocked in the shop means we are now more equipped to cater to the animal farming industry?

Some of the consumables you are stocking like feeding bottles, castration rings, and ear tags will help the local livestock farmers as they will not have to travel so far to purchase these goods at competitive prices. Along with the electric fencing equipment, water fittings and troughs we hope that we can give the livestock farmer a great service.

Lots of people that have been in to the shop have been discussing the change in ‘Grandfather Rights’. Can you explain what these changes are and how Agrimec can provide essential equipment to help people keep spraying safely within the new legislation?

The law is changing later this year so that all sprayer operators will have to have a qualification to operate a sprayer. Prior to this if you were over a certain age you were able to operate a sprayer without this qualification. For anybody having to take this test we can supply all the safety equipment needed i.e. coveralls, facemasks, gloves etc. that is needed. We can also carry out NSTS MOT’s on any type of agricultural, horticultural or amenity sprayer.

How have you catered for the younger farmer?

Agrimec has always supported the Young Farmers via membership and sponsorship. In addition, we now offer current YFC members 5% discount in the shop and are always very happy to help with advice whenever needed. If you are a young farmer come and talk to us.

Finally, we are all excited about the fact that we are a Suzuki ATV dealership. How do you think that our customers could benefit from having a Quad Bike?

A quad bike is a very versatile machine. It will cut down on time taken on all sorts of jobs from fencing to feeding livestock. It reduces damage to pastures where used instead of a tractor or other larger vehicle and saves on fuel costs.

Precision Spraying

The Navigator range of trailed sprayer and the self-propelled Alpha range are now equipped with the Dynamic Fluid 4 system.

Precision farming options of HC8500 make the Navigator an attractive and competitively priced high specification trailed sprayer.  For higher capacity farms the new Navigator range extents to 5 and 6000 litre units with the force 24-36m boom now available.

The Navigator Echo was released at LAMMA this year and is available from as little as £24,835. This model boasts a choice of a 21m or 24m boom, EVC fluid system and a HC 5500 rate controller as standard. Auto Track steering can be added for only £2090 which offers safety and stability through the on board DEC system.

If you operate an ISO terminal on your tractor then the Hardi Master mounted, or Navigator and commander trailed units can be easily attached directly to your ISO system. Alternatively, the touch screen HC 8500 or 9500 terminal can be added, giving Auto Section and field mapping as standard.

We have had many orders for both Hardi and Florida fruit sprayers and would urge anyone interested in renewing their machine to call Rich, as soon as possible to allow time for delivery before the start of the spraying season.

We have only a couple of second hand mist blowers available at present and they are in very good condition. We are sure they will sell fast.

Good air flow and high spray reach from the Hardi mist blowers have led to good reports of successful yields. It is safe to say that Hardi are some of the best sprayers on the market.

Don’t forget – we also have a huge range of spare parts available for a number of different models. Visit John in the stores or call us for more details.

We are can also service your existing machine and provide an MOT, call us on 01531 632171 to book your machine in.

The Perfect Mower

To keep your rows tidy, the perfect range of mowers has the addition of the NX 460 flail topper. This is a variable width mower with cutting widths from 2.9m to 4.6m (9’6” – 15’1”). Whilst this machine has been in development over the last year, we will have a demonstrator model for people to try.

Perfect Mowers

In addition, we have a number of second hand DR440 variable width rotary mowers in stock. These are very popular and are ideal in orchards of 15’ – 18’ rows.

A fruitful harvest

We are very pleased to see that many of our cider growers have benefited from a fruitful 2014 .  New and used sprayers and harvesting equipment have been selling fast, but we always have machines available with some quality harvesters, mowers and sprayers coming into stock.

Pruning season is in full swing and Rich advises that you make sure you have the best pruning equipment for this season to make sure high yields follow.

To get you started we have a fantastic offer on our Arvipo electric pruning range!

The shop is run by Guy’s daughter, Sophie, who is quickly learning the trade and has swapped city life for farming retail. She is always appreciative of seeing new faces, learning more about farming and horticulture and hearing what you would like to see being sold locally. Plus, she usually has the kettle ready for a cuppa!

We have been open since the 6th January and celebrated with tea and cake on the day. Customers had the chance to see the new stock, meet the suppliers, order in goods and enter our Suzuki prize draw.

The day was a great success and we saw a number of new and existing customers attend. The prize from the draw, some Suzuki overalls and a jacket, were won by and John Hawkins – congratulations John, we hope they are appreciated in this cold climate!

Customers were also pleased to see their orders delivered very promptly, most arriving the next morning!

Future of Pesticides – and our future!

combine in corn fieldAs some of you may know the Andersons report has been written to establish the probable effect on crop production by the banning of more active pesticides. The final report is now available. It makes for grime reading!

Whilst the implications for the feeding of the world are great, the effect of the EU and UK economies would be affected but perhaps more importantly farmer and growers could be possibly faced with a 36% drop in profit. This must surely have grave implications for a lot of you and consequently me as well!

Sprayers- Information for the forward thinking farmer

We have this summer sold three 24 metre Hardi Master sprayers with varying sizes of tank from 1,200 litres to 1,800 litres. These are performing well for our customers. There are two more available for delivery now.

As a result we have two very good second hand crop sprayers available both with rate controllers.

  1. Hardi Master 21 metre, 1,500 litre with HC 2500 rate controller. It is in extremely good condition and is only 4 years old.
  2. John Deere 20 metre, 1,000 litre with John Deere rate controller. In very good condition.

In addition, we can offer you some very competitive prices on the excellent range of Hardi mounted, trailed or self-propelled sprayers. Hardi have a wide range of specifications to suit all sizes and types of farm and size of pockets too!

We have had some very encouraging experiences of pest and disease control in cider fruit with the high air flow Hardi mist blowers. These machines have managed to get the chemicals into the tops of the taller trees giving a very good control of scab and other pest problems.

Further good reports in desert fruit have been received from customers using our Florida sprayers, with or without diffusers fitted. If you are interested in a Florida sprayer we have a new one in the yard come and look or ask for a demonstration

If you are thinking of changing your crop sprayer please call Rich on 07773 357899. Early orders are essential to allow delivery on time for the start of the spring spray program.

New SFM self-propelled apple harvester

We are delighted to say that the new self-propelled apple harvester designed this year to our customer’s individual requirements has been delivered and already started to harvest apples.

Michael Keene and Son Ltd just outside Newent have been very pleased with the performance of the harvester, in particular, the efficient way the machine picks up the fruit and the quality of the harvested sample. Operator comfort has also proved to be very good.

The machine is a ‘one man’ harvesting solution, as it collects and cleans the apples depositing them in a hopper and unloads into a 14 tonne grain trailer. This can be done with one driver until the grain trailers are full and ready to tip.

As is often the case with a new design of machine, the Keene’s have spotted one or two improvements, which will be incorporated in to the machine as and when time allows.
